The new Guyana Government remains committed to good governance and integrity in public life, constitution reform, and strengthening of our plural, multi-ethnic democracy.
To realise these goals, in 2017 government successfully tabled The Integrity Commission (Amendment of Code of Conduct) Order 2017, which introduced strict principles of public life and listed ten articles to eliminate corrupt practices and abuse of public office.
The Integrity Commission will be re-constituted to enforce the principles enshrined in the Code of Conduct, and ensure observance of the Code by members of the National Assembly, senior functionaries and those who hold public office.
The Government also tabled in the National Assembly the Constitutional Reform Consultative Commission Bill which provides the legislative foundation to proceed with constitutional reform. The Bill has been sent to a Special Committee for consideration. The Consultative Commission, when established, will undertake consultations nationally, and also with the Guyanese diaspora. The Government of Guyana looks forward to working closely with all citizens, civil society and political parties, and international partners, to bring acceptable changes to the constitution in keeping with the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, plural and secular nature of the Guyana.
